Shot Noise in Mesoscopic Systems: From Single Particles to Quantum Liquids

نویسندگان

چکیده

Shot noise, originating from the discrete nature of electric charge, is generated by scattering processes. Shot-noise measurements have revealed microscopic charge dynamics in various quantum transport phenomena. In particular, beyond single-particle picture, such proved to be powerful ways investigate electron correlation liquids. Here, we review recent progress shot-noise mesoscopic physics. This summarizes basics theory based on Landauer–Büttiker formalism, measurement techniques used previous studies, and several experiments demonstrating We then discuss three different kinds liquids, namely those formed by, respectively, Kondo effect, fractional Hall superconductivity. Finally, current noise within framework nonequilibrium statistical physics related experiments. hope that this will convey significance a broad range researchers condensed matter

Shot noise in mesoscopic systems

This is a review of shot noise, the time-dependent fluctuations in the electrical current due to the discreteness of the electron charge, in small conductors. The shot-noise power can be smaller than that of a Poisson process as a result of correlations in the electron transmission imposed by the Pauli principle. This suppression takes on simple universal values in a symmetric double-barrier ju...

Shot noise in chaotic systems: "classical" to quantum crossover.

This paper is devoted to study of the classical-to-quantum crossover of the shot noise in chaotic systems. This crossover is determined by the ratio of the particle dwell time in the system, tau(d), to the characteristic time for diffraction t(E) approximately lambda(-1)|lnh, where lambda is the Lyapunov exponent. The shot noise vanishes when t(E)>>tau(d), while it reaches a universal value in ...

Quantum Shot Noise

Noise plays a uniquely informative role in connection with the particle-wave duality. It was Albert Einstein who first realized (in 1909) that electromagnetic fluctuations are different if the energy is carried by waves or by particles. The magnitude of energy fluctuations scales linearly with the mean energy for classical waves, but it scales with the square root of the mean energy for classic...

Shot-noise of quantum chaotic systems in the classical limit

Semiclassical methods can now explain many mesoscopic effects (shot-noise, conductance fluctuations, etc) in clean chaotic systems, such as chaotic quantum dots. In the deep classical limit (wavelength much less than system size) the Ehrenfest time (the time for a wavepacket to spread to a classical size) plays a crucial role, and random matrix theory (RMT) ceases to apply to the transport prop...
